Eleven things to Teach Your Children

from Elder Russell M. Nelson:
(given in a address at the Nashua NH Stake Conference, June 8, 2008)

1: Love God - they truly are a Child of God (as are we all).
2: Pray.
3: Jesus Christ IS the Son of God, our Lord and Savior. Elder Nelson suggests using the topical guide in the scriptures and go through the references to the Savior subject by subject.
4: Partake of the Sacrament.
5: What it means to have a Prophet - this dispensation will not end in apostasy - the gospel will fill the whole earth. President Thomas S. Monson is a Prophet.
6: Restoration of the priesthood - gathering of Israel comes about because of the Book of Mormon.
7: Love the scriptures. Sometimes Elder Nelson would arrive home after his children were all asleep. He would wake them up to study the scriptures with him, "It was not always a howling success - sometimes it was more howling than success."
8: Importance of paying tithing. In South Africa, many people only eat one meal a day so fasting for two meals can be a FOUR day process. Take your children to tithing settlement with you.
9: Be obedient to the Word of Wisdom. Pornography is as addictive as any drug.
10: Get an education.
11: Love our country, the United States of America, and our flag. Respect the policeman in your area.

1. Great counsel from church leaders
2. a relaxing day
3. safe journeys

Some great ideas in this list, esp the topical guide study point, I don't think of that with kids, but they could totally handle that.
Thanks
